The
CMBA was formed over 50 years ago to help promote and
protect the motorcycle industry in Connecticut. It has
been the watchdog on monitoring legislation which would
adversely affect our businesses. It has co-produced
motorcycle shows in Hartford, worked with numerous state
agencies and legislators, hosted free workshops, seminars,
meeting and Christmas parties.
The number of bills which are submitted every year is
increasing. Everything from banning dirt bikes and atv’s
to helmet law issues. If it wasn’t for the CMBA
members addressing these sometimes ridiculous laws,
who would? What’s next, training wheels on our
motorcycles? I doubt any business owner has the time
or money to address these issues on their own.
The board of directors have volunteered their time,
at their own personal expense, to continue the important
work started long ago by the CMBA. Well, after 50 years
the current crop of dealers feel that they can just
sit back and let the other guy do all the work! Guess
what, the other guy is getting tired and the number
of dealers who support the CMBA is at an all time low.
In fact, if we do not get more members to join and more
members to get involved, the CMBA will soon cease to
exist. We currently need people to fill vacancies on
the board of directors, as well as someone to be a paid
association manager.
We need every dealer or business involved in the powersports
field who is not a member to join, everyone who is a
member to call non-members and urge them to join and
everyone to get involved NOW before its too late! If
you know of any motorcycle related businesses, forward
this letter to them and then follow up with a call.
Any new members will get the first 6 months of dues
at no charge.
We need a powerful organization if we intend to change
things and to control our own destiny. The only way
to accomplish this is by joining together for the common
good of all. In numbers there is strength!
The CMBA has the potential to do many good things for
our businesses and our sport. Lets all work together
to get it there! You
can contact any of the board members with questions
or call me direct at Canton Cycles, 800-665-4BMW.

Ralph E. DeLuco
